Bonnet Poem

I'm just a little hankie

as square as square can be,
but with a small stitch or two

a bonnet I will be.

I'll be worn from the hospital

or on my christening day.
And after that, be folded

then carefully put away.

When on that future wedding day

so we've been always told,
the well-dressed bride must carry

something that is old.

So what could be more fitting
than to find little me
and with a few fine stitches snipped

a wedding hankie be.

And if perchance it is a boy

someday he'll surely wed.
Then his bride can have the hankie

once worn upon his head.

Baby Bonnet Pattern

You'll need:
1 piece of white thread 48" long
12"x12" hankie. I get my hankies from Embroider This! I use the lace corner hankie.
6 tiny pearls
2 pieces of ribbon 12" long to be attached at #5 and #6.
1 piece of ribbon 24” long. This can be pink, blue, or white.
1 needle

Instructions:
Iron and starch bonnet as shown.

Attach pearl at #1 by sewing three times.
Quick stitch the channel.
Attach pearl at #2 by sewing three times. Knot and cut the thread.
Attach pearl at #3 by sewing three times. Knot and cut the thread.
Attach pearl at #4 by sewing three times. Knot and cut the thread.
Pass thread through one of the 12 inch ribbons a half inch from the end.
Tuck the threaded end into hankie near #5 and pass needle up through bonnet.
Attach pearl at #5.
Pass thread through the other 12 inch ribbon a half inch from the end.
Tuck the threaded end into hankie near #6 and pass needle up through bonnet.
Attach pearl at #6.
Slide the 24" ribbon through the channel.
Pull it even.
Gather the hankie and tie the ribbon in a bow.
